![]() ![]() With the crossover set to begin in July, there's still plenty of time for more information about these swords - and any others that might be floating around the Marvel Universe - to come to the surface before X of Swords kicks off. Finally, the armored character with wings and a sword appears to be one of the young heroes of Children of the Atom, the X-Men's new team of sidekicks. The deadly ex-Marauder Scalphunter, who's set to appear in Hellions, appears to be welding some kind of sword gun. Eye Boy, one of the stars of the upcoming X-Factor relaunch has a sword with eyeballs on it. The final three swords in the image all belong to some unlikely mutants who are about to take on regular roles in new ongoing series. Similarly, the young Cable is wilding an oversized giant sword that's been seen in promotional material for his upcoming series. Both Storm and Cyclops seem to be wielding lightsaber-esque energy weapons that could be new additions for the event. This does not influence my opinion of this book in any way. Logan’s cinematic YA fantasy debut introduces a lush and diverse world of magic, royalty, adventure and loyaltyperfect for fans of Children of Blood and Bone, Graceling and the Throne of Glass series. Even with all of the history behind many of the blades in the promotional image, there are still plenty of swords in the teaser that do not seem to have any precedent. Logan I received a digital copy of this novel via Netgalley. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Let me start by saying there is a lot to love about this book. Can’t say I regret it though – I tore through the book in 3-days. If I had known this one was yet again part of a series, I might have pushed it back up on the ‘to-read list’ but, here we are. Guess the next best option is Science fiction! ![]() I tried to switch that up by quickly grabbing a thriller, which in truth wasn’t much better, as you can read here. I decided to dive into it right now because I have been reading a lot of fantasy books recently. This is yet another book that I received in one of the more recent subscription boxes from the fabulous Chocolate and Book. Oh well – I guess reading more books isn’t exactly going to change anything but at least it means I get to fill my time with countless adventures. Jeez, is March really almost over already? I don’t know about you but I spend half my time wondering if it is still March 2020 and the other half I keep begging for time to slow down. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ask yourself: Am I thinking or believing the good news about God, others, or myself? To take something captive is to take control of it and put it in a controlled environment - like putting a ferocious animal in a cage. We need to take captive our thoughts and examine them. In a world gone wild, surrounded by the enemies of our soul seeking to distract and destroy us, we desperately need the truths of the gospel applied to our minds daily. Then, while instructing the church in Corinth on how to engage in the spiritual battle around them, he directs them to take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). The apostle Paul directs the church in Rome to not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of their minds (Romans 12:2). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thankfully the story took center stage over the sexual relationship, which I appreciated, and the character development is surprisingly thorough for the genre. The premise is that the daughter of an eccentric inventor heads out on a quest to restore her family's fortune and reputation after her father dies, secretly joining a competition to find an invention of historical importance for the Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.I should mention that this is paranormal romance, so expect some sex scenes (not too many, and they're not too involved, considering the time period the book is set in). Despite the terrible title, this wasn't half bad! The cover was what drew me at first - show me steampunk and SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY - and the description decent enough, so despite constant teasing from El Husbando over the title, it was worth the read. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is part of what made it so hard to like the book. Håkan didn’t seem realistic at all and I felt he lived up to and deserved his legendary notoriety. The corrupt sheriff was probably similar to other men in the era, but he still came across as cartoonish. Lorimer and Asa are the only people I liked and didn’t seem like they stepped out of a movie. There were very few of these characters that I felt were realistic. I wanted more closure from the people he met along the way or for someone to come back into play late in the story to complete a storyline. ![]() ![]() This book was very episodic and that’s not a structure that I usually like. Håkan didn’t even make a strong impression on me. I kept thinking something would change and I’d start to appreciate something I’d missed or I’d become interested in a new character, but it never happened. Diaz defies the conventions of historical fiction and genre, offering a probing look at the stereotypes that populate our past and a portrait of radical foreignness. Driven back again and again, he meets naturalists, criminals, religious fanatics, swindlers, Indians, and lawmen, and his exploits turn him into a legend. The boy travels East in search of his brother, moving on foot against the great current of emigrants pushing West. A young Swedish immigrant finds himself penniless and alone in California. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the earliest attempt to deal with physical pain, frustration and absence psychically we have the first 'mysterious leap' from body to mind.
